Selling Your Business
We make the process of selling a business straightforward and structured. We will arrange a meeting at your business, or at our offices if confidentiality is required, to gather key information and understand the operation. This typically includes ownership details, assets (tangible and intangible) and stock, financial accounts, lease terms and rent reviews where applicable, and staffing information. Using this information, we prepare a professional appraisal, applying at least two recognised valuation methods where appropriate.
First of all we will need to understand the reasons for the sale and gain an understanding of your preferred exit strategy. We also need to take an overview of the business in order to advise on the best way to structure the business for sale. Many businesses are placed on the market without any pre-planning at all. For example, is the success of the business reliant on the current owner? Is significant investment going to be required in the short term? For things like new plant, machinery or premises? Are there any agreements in place with suppliers or distributors? What are the relationships with key customers and suppliers?
